“Proposing (the revision) means pro-corruptor? Come on”
KORAN TEMPO 9/10 Page 4 – The proposal of legislative members from President Joko Widodo’s supporting political parties that will revise the Law on the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and weaken the KPK creates public outcry. Many suspect, the revision plan the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) initiated is a form of dissatisfaction with the KPK’s legal enforcement.
Lalola Easter Kaban, researcher of Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) suspects the motive of politicians in People’s Representative Council (DPR) to do the revision is the fact that KPK has snared many of their colleagues for corruption cases. “KPK seems to disturb DPR because KPK has processed a lot of DPR members, “Kaban said yesterday.
According to Kaban, DPR dislikes KPK’s indiscriminate attitude in the handling of corruption cases. He mentioned, KPK had detained Anas Urbaningrum, the general chairman of Democratic Party and Luthfi Hasan Ishaaq, president of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS). “That’s why, if there is chance to weaken KPK, they’ll take it, “he said.
Kaban wondered why the initiators of the revision came from the government supporting political parties: PDIP, the National Awakening Party (PKB), United Development Party (PPP) and the People’s Conscience Party (Hanura) as well as Golkar, because President Widodo had stated he would not revise the Law No. 30 of 2002. “There seems to be disharmony with the President, “Kaban said.
Abdullah Dahlan, coordinator for ICW network division, who represents the Judicial Monitoring Commission, said, the deliberation of KPK Draft Law was a systematic effort to weaken and terminate the KPK’s ideal functions. “We think the DPR’s plan is an effort to weaken KPK in the agenda to combat corruption, “Dahlan said at press conference in front of KPK building, yesterday. The Judicial Monitoring Commission urged DPR to revoke the KPK Draft Law revision in the National Legislation Program (Prolegnas) 2015.
Masinton Pasaribu, the PDIP politician and the revision initiator, denies the accusation that the revision is made because KPK has captured many of his colleagues in DPR for corruption case. “It has nothing to do with that. Come on, proposing [the revision] doesn’t mean pro-corruptor, “he asserted.
Meanwhile, activists of Corruption-Nepotism Eradication Committee (KP2KKN) of Central Java expressed disappointment with DPR member from Central Java who also proposed the KPK Law revision. “The revision was proposed by 15 legislators from PDIP, Golkar, PKB, PPP, the National Democratic Party (NasDem), and Hanura, “said action coordinator Hanendya Risha during protest on Jalan Pahlawan, Semarang.
Two of the revision initiators came from PDIP and PPP of Central Java. According to Risha, his team would include the two men in the black list for their supports for the revision he regarded will destroy KPK.
